September 1987 to 1996
I started college shortly after high school. I attended college for two years until I began to see the toil that my education was having on my parents’ finances. That is when I decided to join the Navy. I didn’t tell my mother because I didn’t want her to worry.
Shortly, after I joined the Navy my brother joined which was great. It was great because we go to go to boot camp together and be in the same building. Women were on the top floor, and the men were on the bottom floor. The two groups were never to speak or acknowledge the others’ existence in boot camp.
Little did they know that each time I saw my brother I was able to speak to him until one day two weeks before graduation they found out the secret. My drill Sergeant stop the whole troop and stated, “Taylor, you want to speak to your brother.” (Taylor is my maiden name. It wasn’t a bad thing that the drill sergeant did this because my brother injured his knee and his moral was down so they were trying to boost his moral I guess by allowing him to talk to me. We were even allowed to talk after
that without the troop. Cool, huh.
I served three and half years to include a tour of Desert Storm before getting an honorable discharge in 1993.
I got married while in the military to Troy Brown. The wedding was on November 20, 1990. No children came of this union. This union divided in 1998 and for good in
2000.
After the military, I worked at a shipyard making minesweeper for the Navy. The contract got cut then I was laid off. I took the opportunity to complete an Associate Degree in Electromechanical Engineering Technology from Savannah Technical College.
After completion of that degree, I went to work at the City of Savannah. I worked in the Wastewater Department. Wastewater is the nice way to say sewage.
I was an electronic technician so I repaired the pumps that moved the sewage.

June 1969-June of 1987
From as long as I can remember I always wanted to be
an engineer. I used to love taking toys, phones, whatever apart to see how it worked.
I also used to think that my dad could always fix it if I broke it. This in and of itself may or may not be unique especially for a girl to do. I
was born to Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Taylor I. I am the elder child of three. I am the only girl, as well, which made college and dorm life difficult for me, but more about that later.
I was born in Brunswick, Georgia, but was reared in Woodbine, Georgia. For those of you who do not know where either
or those towns are Woodbine is 45 minutes from Jacksonville, FL. So when I drive home I still have five to six hours once I reach Atlanta,
but as soon as I hit the state line of Georgia I feel like I am home,
though.
I completed high school in June of 1987.
