Have you stop to smell the roses, lately? This old adage would be accurate if today’s blog was about roses. No, today’s blog is about lilies. I personally avoid smelling either. Not because I do not love flowers, it is because of allergies. I have hay fever, but that has not and never will stop me from admiring flowers with pollen from afar.

Day lilies are very beautiful and has very little fragrant as many other flowers including roses. This flower has been a favorite of gardeners everywhere since the beginning of time.

The day lily is very versatile because it can grow in the most unfavorable conditions to include poor soil and drought.

The ironic thing about a day lily is that its bloom only last one day; hence, its name day lily.

This flower can add color, and beauty to any garden or landscape.

The idea planting season for the day lily is July and August.

Day lilies have qualities that almost every gardener loves it can crowd out weeds with its “fountain like” foliage. When the day lily is not in bloom, it makes a beautiful backdrop for other flowers.

If you are looking for a decorative plant for your landscape that can take a lot of abuse consider the day lily. You have 50,000 types to choice from, so that should make for happy planting.
