Cow manure has been used as a fertilizer for years. Now, it can be used as a bio-gas to produce electricity.

The bio-gas from cow manure begins with the bacteria breakdown of the cow’s feed in the stomach of the cow.

To continue the process of creating the bio-gas, the manure is put in an enclosed concrete tank. Once in the tank the manure breaks into bi-particles of methane gas and carbon dioxide. Heat is added to the process to continue the breakdown of the manure to bio-gas.

At some point, the gas is pumped off and used to generate power. It can run several micro-turbines that can be used to produce electricity.

The complete process takes 20 days, and the remaining solids can be used as fertilizer.

As a matter of fact, this innovative process of creating electricity produces enough electricity to run about 220 homes and saves $12000 month in electricity cost.

So the next time you see a cow, thank him or her for helping save the earth.
