To Homeowners Who Want To Cut Home Improvement Cost

Home improvement projects do not have to go on the back burner even though times are tough.   Have you considered doing the projects yourself?  With DIY (do-it-yourself) network and free home improvement classes offer at Lowe’s and Home Depot it may be worth considering.

Another little know fact is that even though you may not dream of tackling a tiling job, for instance, alone you may not have, too. Many contractors are now considering small jobs and may be willing to work side by side with you because of the economic downturn.

If a job like re-tiling your bathroom or kitchen seems to big a job then paint a door or even a bedroom.   Doing this task will build your confidence and improve your skills.

It is also recommended that instead of tackling big job that as a beginner you do experiment with bigger task so that you want get overwhelm.  An example is taking a board and tiling the board so that you can see what materials, tools, and skills are involved.

I, too, have tried tasks or home improvement jobs that I later discovered were to big for me to handle.  I initially hired a contractor to do a plumbing job, but the guy did not complete the task.  Therefore, all my water was off in my home.  I was able to get majority of that completed without a problem, but when came to the drywalling it was too much for me.  The drywall was too heavy and I was not sure how to secure it or how to mud it.  I called in another contractor this one was more reliable.  He was impressed that I attempted to do the job myself and gave me pointers for when I wanted to tackle a job of that caliber, again.

I am not sure if I will ever do a drywall job, but I did do and complete a tile job.  I think, the ceramic tile job I will leave to the professional, though.  My tile job was peel and stick.  The ceramic job I tried did not go as plan so I will be calling my old reliable contractor again soon.

Who knows may be I will get some added bonuses with free tips on doing a job similar in the future.  The tile job is fun unlike the drywall, so I may try that again.

Don’t be afraid to shop around when work with contractor or asking for their assistance on a home improvement project you will be surprised at the reward let alone the savings.

• Odon
• Cambridge CIty
• Washington County
• Lawrence County

• Mitchell
• Orange County
