The economical demands on the citizens of one of the highest property taxed communities have just seen a new price increase. The city of Gary considered on June 16, 2009 whether or not to charge the citizens for trash pickup. Meanwhile, it was deemed unconstitutional to charge the citizens by a judge in the community; however, the citizens were still being charged.

With one of the highest tax rates in Indian, it seems to be unreasonable for the city to expect the citizens to continue to accept sub-par service for the astronomical prices that the citizens are paying for this service. By the way, the trash collection has always been part of property tax collections. Not only, will the citizens still be pay an excessive tax rate, but a trash collection fee, as well.

The citizens of Gary, however, formed a rally to protest the unfair trash collection fee. The result of the rally remains to be seen.

Well, the results are in Gary citizens do not have garbage collection at all now thanks in part to the Mayor not following rules and putting the garbage collection up for bid and by charging an unconstitutional additional $12.00 to residents without public and committee approval.

This issue is still not resolved it is back on the agenda for August 20, 2009.
